Some of my friends probably think I’m not really overweight – I carry it well, I like to think. But the fact is that my BMI says I’m not just overweight – I’m “obese”. At 5’6″ I have 40 lbs to lose to be considered normal weight, and I’d like to lose 5 more than that to give me some wiggle room.
I’ve gone through this routine twice before. Once in 2004 I lost 30 lbs in 3 months through diet and exercise, inspired by the Body for Life book and cookbook, which taught me how to eat and gave me a lot of motivation. Then I gained it back in grad school (they had an entire freezer of free ice cream, including Tollhouse cookie sandwiches!) and after graduation in 2008 set out to lose 35 lbs in 3 months through the 20/20 Lifestyles program (recommended if you can afford it!). Now in 2012 I have 40 to lose. Every time I let it creep back on I have to lose 5 more than the last time. How long am I going to live ashamed of my physical state, a slave to chocolate and ice cream? Fried chicken and pizza? Wendy’s and Taco Bell?
This time I’m doing it on my own, with the support of friends and this blog, starting Feb 13th, 2012. This gives me three months to fit into my shorts before my trip to Texas in May and five months before Fourth of July, which should be warm enough to celebrate with a tank top! And maybe some fried chicken and ice cream if I even still crave the stuff 🙂
Tale of the scale:
